Investigations

Investigations are hands on opportunities for students to find answers to their questions on the project topic.

Grocery Store Project

Students 5-6 years

Students were using real pennies in their dramatic play grocery store and noticed how dirty they were. A question emerged about how to clean the pennies at the grocery store using grocery items. Students wrote their names and put it by the liquid they predicted would clean the pennies the best. They tested out the different liquids and found one that worked the best.

They incorporated the following objectives:

  • Describe and compare measurable attributes of objects
  • Classify Objects into categories
  • Demonstrate alphabetical Knowledge
  • Write Upper and Lowercase Letters
  • Represent data using concrete objects, pictures, and graphs.

Fruit Project

Students 14-23 months

Students explored fruits through touching, tasting, and cooking with them. They overcame fears of the pineapple, learned new fruit vocabulary, and learned how to work cooperatively with others through sharing and taking turns.
